This week's adventure

Since Trish is leaving the island soon, we are trying to get around for photo shoots and experiences she wants to enjoy before they go.




This week, we drove out to Kahumana Cafe for lunch. they serve organic food, much of it from their garden. It was a really lovely lunch. And the lilikoi cheesecake was onolicious! Of course I couldn't eat the crust, but that's OK. it's the lilikoi bit that I was interested in.



After spending the morning walking in the water at Ko Olina, soaking up some sun, the quiet country atmosphere was perfect. I got so mellow, looking out at the garden and listening to the birds, it was a little slice of paradise. It seems to me that people were meant to live in a garden with trees all around, and the birds singing.

I could have stayed all afternoon.

interNational Scrapbook Day 2012

What are you doing for interNational Scrapbook Day?

I've decided to participate in the Design House Digitals challenge this weekend. They are having a blog hop, and a big collar kit for free, as well as a challenge to use all 26 challenges is one layout. Fulfilling the challenge gives you a chance to win a 12x12 digital frame. How awesome that would be to win! We could enjoy my digi layouts before I even got them printed. I didn't even know they made digital photo frames that big!

This definitely was a challenge for me. I don't usually put so much stuff on a page, I would not have combined red & orange on my own, I normally leave a lot more space for journaling, but given all the requirements, I'm happy with just a few words. I'll say more in a companion page. I added a bit of extra fun by using a few of the techniques given on the blog hop.

My normal scrap process is much quicker, with a cleaner, simple look for the finished page, but I enjoy doing challenges from time to time, just to push my comfort zone a little and see what I can do with it.

I will mostly not be scrapping today, but that's OK because I worked on this a lot last night, and I did catch part of Stacy Julian's chat at Big Picture Classes, as well as all of Ali's. Saturday chores are calling, there are errands to run, and I have a commitment this afternoon I'm looking forward to.

Travel Album Project

Trish and I are both going to be traveling this summer, and we planned our own little scrapping retreat while her husband was on a trip so that we could spend a full day working on making our mini albums to take on the road. The inspiration for this album comes from Ali Edwards' Scrapbook on the Road class.

I made an Scrapbook on the Road album for a trip I took last November and I really enjoyed the process and the result.

The first thing we did was gather a collection of supplies. I had a couple of different paper packs that had been sitting on my shelf for a few years, and we both raided our color drawers for bits and pieces that would coordinate.

Then we cut the paper into 6 x 6 squares. One of the sheets was printed in strips of all the patterned paper, which was perfect for our plan. Oh, wait! The reality is that we didn't have much of a plan.




Then we played with what to do with the chipboard covers. The papers we were using included a laser cut that was perfect to enhance the cover, but we were having a bit of difficulty deciding what color paper to put behind it. Until Trish got out her inks and started to play. We inked, Mod Podged, layered on the laser cut paper, Mod Podged some more, then trimmed it all with washi tape when it dried.

We had a fun day, and the base pages are all done.

One lovely feature, designed by Trish, is attaching a small paper bag with handles to the back of the album. Perfect for stashing pens, mini stapler and other necessities for journaling on the go. That step in the process isn't done yet. Photos of that will come later. I've got to acquire my paper bag still!

You will see, if you look at the other photos, a small folded paper bag attached to the inside back cover of mine. This smaller bag creates two pockets for stashing memorabilia from the trip, and mine currently holds extra 3x5 cards for journaling. Never hurts to have more!

We are both going to round the corners of the inside pages, and the album with be bound with book rings.

I'm Tired of Seeing Project Life

I'm going to be the Grinch here.

I'm flat out tired of seeing posts about Project Life. Don't get me wrong - I think it's potentially a great project, especially for people who want to document their life and don't enjoy or don't have time for scrapbooking. I wish I'd had it when my kids were young. And it's great for bringing in daily ephemera as well.

But as a digital scrapper, and someone who loves to create pages, it doesn't really hold anything for me. And so I'm tired of seeing all the posts that everyone is doing on Project Life. Even the people whose work I love and admire. I've noticed that it draws these amazing scrapbookers away from actually making pages. The majority of their time and effort is going into Project Life. Which if fine, it works for them. It just doesn't inspire me at all. Not. At. All. And virtually everybody is doing it. So there's a lot of it showing up on blogs.

Which explains why I'm tired of seeing it. There. I warned you that I'm being a Grinch.

I'm back!

I've been on a bit of a blog break, with only one post in February. I've been feeling under the weather a lot during February, and there just wasn't the energy for blogging.

I'm still in recovery mode, but Katie the Scrapbook Lady has inspired me to post with her talk of February Roundup.





I'm pleased to say I did my February Roundup this weekend. I don't add photos to this since I do a yearly photo project based on Cathy Zielske's The Monthly templates. This is a project I love! I do it 100% digitally and print it as a photo book at the end of the year. It's the only chronological scrapping that I do.

I use my roundup to inform my journaling for this project, but I've also decided to (possibly) keep the roundup file for each month in a binder. Nothing fancy, although I might add a divided page protector with photos later on, who knows. I view this as more of a simplified journal than a scrapbooking project.

I need to keep it simple because I don't need another thing on my scrapping to-do list. I'm already doing One Little Word and Twelve over at Big Picture Classes. I love both projects. I'm very, very proud to say that I've gotten all 12 layouts for Twelve done for both January and February! I still have my February Photos I Love page to do, and I need to catch up on my One Little Word pages, but I'm having a great time with both projects.

Regarding Twelve - can I just say that Stacy Julian is an organizational genius when it comes to scrapping? She has a way of making it functional and fun at the same time.
