Purpose

A blog to share about Adrenal insufficiency, Addison's Disease, Aspergers Syndrome, Autism, Music, Inspiration, Scrapbooking and other elements viewed through the lens of my life. I'm hoping that others who are traveling this journey may find some commonality, and maybe some information and inspiration.

iScrapit

I have to tell you, I'm über excited about this class! Ever since I got my iPad, I've longed to be able to scrap printable pages on it. Leave it to techie scrapper Renée Pearson to figure out how to do this. Her class, iScrapit starts June 15th. I wish it was starting just a little sooner because I leave on a trip the 22nd! I will have internet access at least part of the time, so I'm hoping to be able to play along for most of it.

I'm really looking forward to learning how to scrap and share more digitally, as well as to print from these pages! I was surprised to see that it uses Keynote, which I recently purchased for my iPad. I've been playing around with it a little and was surprised to see that when exported as a PDF file, it's very high resolution. It is, however, a very different experience from scrapping with PSE.

One of the huge bonuses is this: I generally use my iPhone 4S for photography. That's going to be my camera on my upcoming trip. With PhotoStream, these photos (the last 1000) show up on my iPad and my Mac automatically. Thus they are automatically available to scrap with on my iPad. I'll be able to create pages while on my trip, and even embed them here on my blog. Video can also be included.

We are going to learn how to resize digital supplies for the iPad/iPhone so we can make use of our digital goodies. My only concern there is that my iPad is one of the smaller versions, so I don't have a lot of memory available. I'll have to clear out some iBooks I've read and other unneeded files so there is plenty of room before I'm on the road.

I can't wait to dig into this class and learn more!

31 Things

I'm in the midst of a class at Big Picture Classes called 31 Things taught by Ali Edwards. I always always love Ali's classes. This project is journaling based, with 31 prompts, given out each day over the 31 day period.

I'm doing my project digitally, using the templates Ali has provided with the class. The papers I'm using are from The Digi Files. I read the emails every morning, but often don't have time to actually do the work of writing and checking for or taking a photograph, so I do the work in clusters. Today I did four prompts, getting caught up with all of last week's prompts. I am just needing a few pictures to finish it up. I am not that worried about getting all the layouts done on schedule. My main focus is to get the journaling done so I can finish it up at my leisure, but so far I've done fairly well getting the layouts done as well.

Here's my 1st page:

When I read the first prompt, Jewelry, I didn't think I'd have that much to say, since I'm not a big jewelry person. But once I sat down to write, I found I had more to write that I'd thought. This seems to be the general trend with the prompts so far.

This class just adds to my conviction that if Ali is teaching a class, I want to take it!

This Week's Project

Given that Trish is moving in a little over a month, she's on a mission to clear out clutter. She's been saving bits and pieces of interesting things, so we spent Monday combining them with card stock and covers to make some mini books. Neither one of us is quite sure what they should be used for, other than that they are not likely to become scrapbooks for photos and they won't be art journals. One idea is an inspiration journal. Another is a place to stick ephemera. Or a book to periodically write down current favorite things. Their future is yet to be determined, but we felt like we had a really productive day. We assembled seven on Monday, in addition to the two we made the week before.

Included in the books: parts of magazine pages, transparencies, envelopes (including everyday mailing envelopes - you know, the security kind with the interesting patterns inside), tags, pages from old planners and date books - you get the general picture. Lots of things that would have been junk have now been repurposed.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day!

We don't usually make a big fuss about holidays around here. Which means we don't make a big fuss about Mother's Day either. But my children don't forget me by any means. Flowers were supposed to be delivered, but the FTD people said they couldn't deliver them, apparently. I have no idea why. So our son who lives with us stopped by the store to pick some up. He apologized because of course by the time he got off work Sat., the best bouquets were gone. That's OK - I'm enjoying these.

Then our daughter & son-in-law came out, and my daughter surprised me with a mani- and pedi-

and she told me not to order a certain clothing item she knows I want because that is also coming at some point.

I also had a nice conversation with our daughter who lives on the mainland. She makes custom jewelry, so she's in the process of creating something for me. I'm totally OK with it not being here yet.

I'm pretty sure they got the "day late and a dollar short" gift giving gene from me :) I'm having a lovely day. It's a nice mix - time with family and quiet time to relax after. Just what this Mom hoped for.

Loving Well

Those who are loved well by Father, will love well in the world. To be a lover of people is the one thing every one of us can do each day that will do more to change the world than any personal achievement we aspire to. Loving those whom God puts before--our spouse, children, co-workers, neighbors, and even strangers--is where real joy is found and where the kingdom work is really done. - Wayne Jacobsen

This week's adventure

Since Trish is leaving the island soon, we are trying to get around for photo shoots and experiences she wants to enjoy before they go.

This week, we drove out to Kahumana Cafe for lunch. they serve organic food, much of it from their garden. It was a really lovely lunch. And the lilikoi cheesecake was onolicious! Of course I couldn't eat the crust, but that's OK. it's the lilikoi bit that I was interested in.

After spending the morning walking in the water at Ko Olina, soaking up some sun, the quiet country atmosphere was perfect. I got so mellow, looking out at the garden and listening to the birds, it was a little slice of paradise. It seems to me that people were meant to live in a garden with trees all around, and the birds singing.

I could have stayed all afternoon.

interNational Scrapbook Day 2012

What are you doing for interNational Scrapbook Day?

I've decided to participate in the Design House Digitals challenge this weekend. They are having a blog hop, and a big collar kit for free, as well as a challenge to use all 26 challenges is one layout. Fulfilling the challenge gives you a chance to win a 12x12 digital frame. How awesome that would be to win! We could enjoy my digi layouts before I even got them printed. I didn't even know they made digital photo frames that big!

Here's the list of requirements (in no particular order):

3 buttons √
a drop cap √
the color orange √
the color grey √
the color red √
include "2012"
layer 3 elements √
attach the photo with a fastener √ (the stitching)
add text to a photo √
use ribbon or bow √
rotate the title sideways √
use a template, but it must be flipped or rotated √ (I got mine here)
2 or more lines of journaling √
journal strips √
list journaling √
use the burn tool √
use an ampersand as a decorative element √
use 5 photos √ (I hope 6 is OK!)
3 patterns √
3 fonts or alphas √ (League Gothic, HI Pi'ilani, HI Kakuhihewa)
one photo must be a circle √
3 items from the freebie collab kit √ (the multi- & yellow papers, black buttons)
use League Gothic font √
recolor 1 element √ (the hibiscus)
use an overlay on at least 1 photo √ (main photo has an overlay)
use Instagram or some other filter on at least one photo √ (small photos all processed in Instagram)

This definitely was a challenge for me. I don't usually put so much stuff on a page, I would not have combined red & orange on my own, I normally leave a lot more space for journaling, but given all the requirements, I'm happy with just a few words. I'll say more in a companion page. I added a bit of extra fun by using a few of the techniques given on the blog hop.

My normal scrap process is much quicker, with a cleaner, simple look for the finished page, but I enjoy doing challenges from time to time, just to push my comfort zone a little and see what I can do with it.

I will mostly not be scrapping today, but that's OK because I worked on this a lot last night, and I did catch part of Stacy Julian's chat at Big Picture Classes, as well as all of Ali's. Saturday chores are calling, there are errands to run, and I have a commitment this afternoon I'm looking forward to.

Have a great day!
